Keeping stylish spirits up in lockdown, Caravan Palace release their new single Moonshine. The funky fan favorite from last year’s acclaimed album Chronologic pays homage to the cool jazz/bossa vibe of Chet Baker, boasts a children’s choir and features the distinctive guest vocals of Parisian jazz star Robin Mansanti.
Already streamed more than six million times, Moonshine is now being released with a set of remixes from some of Caravan Palace’s favorite producers. The party-starting Parisians personally contacted Dutch dance pioneer Bakermat, who dialed up the choir and rebooted the brass on his soulful, tropical house-indebted reworking.
“We’ve been Bakermat fans for quite some time because much of our music shares similar ground. We’re both on a mission to discover original combinations of brass instruments and club beats and some of his synth patterns have a swingy pulse. We also share a love of animated videos – they’ve become a signature for both of us.”
Moonshine took off on streaming services with no promotion, convincing Caravan Palace to release it as Chronologic’s surprise fourth single. They contacted Bakermat, who jumped at the chance to build a bridge between the pair’s similar artistic worlds. Although the DJ and band have yet to meet, they hope to perform the remixed Moonshine on a festival stage in the future.
Moonshine has also been remixed by fast-rising French producer Ténéré (Nowadays Records), whose version reveals his classical background and love of R&B, and by former Caravan Place member Hugues Payen, who delivers a typically quirky rework of the track he co-wrote.
